Black Stone Burns racconta le storie di persone e comunità profondamente segnate dall'industria mineraria globale. Realizzato nell'arco di quattro anni tra Europa, Stati Uniti e Cina, il progetto prende avvio dalla città natale dell'autrice, Bełchatów (Polonia), per poi attraversare le ex città minerarie degli Appalachi, simbolo del declino del sogno americano. Attraverso fotografie, materiali d'archivio e immagini contemporanee, il lavoro analizza il ruolo del carbone nella costruzione di modelli economici e sociali, mettendo in luce le strategie di comunicazione che ancora oggi ne giustificano l'utilizzo. Il percorso si conclude nelle immense miniere cinesi, dove le conseguenze ambientali dell'estrazione su larga scala diventano il simbolo di un sistema che continua a lasciare profonde ferite sul territorio e sulle comunità.

Black Stone Burns tells the stories of people and communities deeply shaped by the global mining industry. Developed over four years across Europe, the United States, and China, the project begins in the artist's hometown of Bełchatów, Poland, before moving through the former mining towns of Appalachia, symbols of the decline of the American Dream. Through photographs, archival materials, and contemporary images, the work examines the role of coal in shaping economic and social models, highlighting the communication strategies that continue to justify its use today. The journey concludes in China's vast mines, where the environmental consequences of large-scale extraction become a symbol of a system that continues to leave deep scars on both the land and the communities that depend on it.
